Vudu Adds Movie-Sharing Feature

Santa Clara, Calif. – Walmart’s over-the-top video streaming service Vudu unveiled Wednesday a new UltraViolet-enabled movie-sharing experience called Share My Movies by Vudu.

The service allows users to easily and safely share their digital movie and TV show collection with up to five people for free without sharing passwords. All that’s required are email addresses.

Walmart said the new capability removes “the friction users face with other services or lending physical discs.”

Movies can be loaned to friends and family members without risk of damaged disks or worrying about managing passwords and permissions.

To use the feature, users can log into and enter up to five email addresses of family members or friends with whom they would like to share their UltraViolet movies and TV shows. Each invited person will receive an email with a link to create a Vudu account and connect to the UltraViolet Library.

“One of the great reasons we own movies is because we can share them with others,” Amit Balan, Vudu senior director wrote in blog announcement Wednesday. A movie collection can be a source of pride, and even a reflection of how we view the world. Many of us have been there — we’re at home with friends, discover they’ve never experienced the outrageousness of ‘Bridesmaids’ or that powerful running sequence from ‘Forrest Gump,’ and feel inspired to walk over to our DVD or Blu-ray collection to lend them that movie.”
