Abode Systems has introduced two weather-resistant sensors designed to monitor outdoor and other nontraditional entry points: the Garage Tilt Sensor and Outdoor Contact Sensor.
Both sensors integrate with Abode’s smart home security systems and can be used with the company’s CUE automation engine to trigger actions based on activity. For example, users can configure driveway lights to turn on when a gate opens after dark or have a garage door close automatically after remaining open for a specified period.
“Break-ins usually don’t start at the front door. Unlocked side gates or garages present vulnerable access points often left unmonitored by homeowners,” said Chris Carney, CEO and Founder of Abode. “We built these sensors because the perimeter of a home deserves the same protection as the inside of it.”
The Garage Tilt Sensor detects changes in orientation of more than 45 degrees in either direction from its resting position. It is designed for tilt-style garage doors as well as attic hatch doors, basement tilt windows and other hinged panels.
The wireless sensor sends alerts through the Abode app when triggered and includes a tamper switch and low-battery notifications. Abode rates battery life at up to 10 years under standard use.
The Outdoor Contact Sensor is designed for applications including metal gates, sheds, storage units, mailboxes and detached garages. It uses a stronger magnet and wider activation gap than indoor contact sensors, while an IP66-rated enclosure provides protection against dust and heavy rain.
The Outdoor Contact Sensor also includes dual tamper switches and sends notifications through the Abode app when activated.
Both sensors require an Abode hub for full functionality and can communicate with the hub at distances of up to 500 feet under optimal conditions.
The Garage Tilt Sensor is priced at $34.99, while the Outdoor Contact Sensor carries a $49.99 MSRP. Both are available now through Abode’s website.
