NORTH CANTON, OHIO — Shipments of full-size household vacuum cleaners increased 1.6 percent in the first quarter of 2001, compared to the same period last year, according to the Vacuum Cleaner Manufacturers Association (VCMA).
Industry sales reached more than 5.27 million units in the first three months of this year, which beats all previous quarters in the history of vacuum sales.
In March alone, nearly 2 million units were sold, representing an increase of 6.2 percent over the year-ago month.
The VCMA pointed out that these increases are exceptional when compared to 2000, a record-breaking year that saw an 8-percent sales spike over 1999.
