All Models Feature Open HDR Technology
The first five Sharp-brand 4K Ultra HD TVs marketed by Hisense USA rolled out with Open HDR support in 43- to 65-inch sizes at suggested retails ranging from $529 to $1,299.
The Aquos N7000U-series smart TVs are among 13 4K TVs unveiled at CES 2016 under the Sharp brand, all supporting the Open HDR standard. Ship dates for the rest of the 4K TVs will be announced at a later date, a spokesperson said.
Models still to come include one Aquos TV that the company said will be submitted to UHD Alliance for certification that it meets the alliance’s minimum 4K performance requirements for dynamic range, color gamut, and other parameters. That model is the $3,299 70-inch N9100U with quantum-dot wide-colorgamut display.
At CES, the company had said the still-planned Aquos-series $2,299 70-inch N8100U and $2,999 curved 65-inch N9000U would also meet alliance requirements, but they won’t be submitted now for certification.
The five 4K TVs that have begun to ship are the $529 43-inch LC-43N7000U, $699 50-inch LC-50N7000U, $799 55-inch LC-55N7000U, $1,099 60-inch LC-60N7000U, and $1,299 65-inch LC-65N7000U.
All five accept 4K HDR content from USB-connected devices and from HDMI 2.0a-connected devices such as 4K Blu-ray players. They also stream 4K video from Ultraflix, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, Toon Goggles, and YouTube. The 4K streaming apps can be updated via a software update at a later date to accept HDR streams, a spokesperson noted. All of the TVs feature Wi-Fi.
All are edge-lit models without local dimming. All continue to offer Sharp’s metal-bezel design and inverted trapezoid at the base.
When all of the new 4K TVs are available, Sharp will offer an Aquos lineup consisting of 10 4K SKUs in sizes from 43 to 75 inches. They will be complemented by a core 4K series consisting of three smart TV models in sizes from 43 to 55 inches.
All of the brand’s 2016 TVs have been developed by Hisense engineers “with advice and support from Sharp” to “make sure Sharp products live up to the licensors’ quality standards,” Hisense USA marketing VP Mark Viken, previously said.
