What’s My Line: Winbot X Is Happy Cleaning Windows

Sensors prevent tumbles

Ecovac Robotics said its newest window-cleaning robot is now shipping.

The Winbot X features a cordless design, as well as a four-stage cleaning system with a Deep Clean mode.

The cordless design with an internal battery allows the device to reach higher areas and cover more glass than previous generations that used an attached cord for power.

Designed to clean dirt on different types of glass, the Winbot X first scans and analyzes the window area. A Deep Clean mode goes over the same area repeatedly, while the four-stage process combines mopping and a squeegee to clean in all directions. The Winbot’s Edge Detection, meanwhile, uses sensors to detect window edges or edgeless windows.

A Safety Tether System is engineered to secure the bot to the window glass, while the Tether-Pad monitors and ensures the device remains connected. When the air pressure within the suction cup is too low, the Tether-Pad will sound a warning and the tether will retract, protecting the robot during indoor and outdoor cleaning, said Ecovac.

The suction cup also reportedly allows the Winbot X to stay on the glass for an extra 30 minutes after the battery runs out. The device can clean for approximately 50 minutes.

The Winbot X weighs less than 4 pounds and has a $449 suggested retail.
