Viken Leaves Sharp For Hisense

Industry veteran Mark Viken is leaving Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America (SEMCA) to become Hisense USA’s marketing VP to oversee the company’s product and branding efforts.

At Sharp, Viken most recently was VP of brand and product marketing for audio/video, appliances, health products and air purifiers. He is leaving Sharp after it was announced earlier this year that Hisense obtained the rights to use the Sharp brand name on TVs in the Americas and bought Sharp’s Mexico TV factory. A single sales and marketing team will sell both brands, Hisense previously said. Hisense takes over Sharp’s North and South American TV businesses on Jan. 6.

Viken was with Sharp for five years. Before that he was marketing VP of market-research company MarketSource, and before that, he was with Sony for 25 years as marketing and new-business development senior VP.

Viken said he has “opportunity to help accelerate the company’s market growth as well as dramatically grow the brand in the US.”

He will be based out of Hisense’s U.S. headquarters in Suwanee, Ga., and will report to Jerry Liu, Hisense USA president/CEO.
