Almo’s Warren Chaiken Underwater?

The distributor made a splash for charity.

International tech and appliance distributor Almo Corp. has a proud tradition of giving back to the community — and last month president/CEO Warren Chaiken was more than willing to swallow a little of his own pride, and lots of water, to do so.

That’s when Chaiken and other Almo staffers took turns in a standard dunk tank for the company’s second annual Splash for Cash charity event at their Philadelphia headquarters.

Chaiken and team may have taken a bath, but they also raised more than $7,000 for the American Cancer Society, aided by a GoFundMe page that far exceeded goal. Lunch was provided by Splash sponsors Sharp Home Appliances, Danby and Honeywell.

But the glad tidings didn’t end there. On Aug. 1, Almo’s Pro A/V commercial wing used the occasion of a national sales meeting to provide a local grassroots organization, Integrate Baltimore, with more than $4,000 in a corporate contribution and raffle money, plus over $25,000 in product donations from Almo’s vendor partners.

The group, a chapter of Integration Nation, provides surplus technology products to underserved areas and helps raise awareness about possible A/V career paths.

The events followed a June 20 bicycle build on behalf of the Philadelphia chapter of the Police Athletic League (PAL) during Almo’s 2018 Dealer Channel National Business Conference. There, employees helped assemble bikes for needy kids with an assist from Sharp.

“It is both an honor and a privilege to be able to give back to our local communities, favorite charities and industry-related organizations,” said Chaiken. “Our secret sauce has always been and always will be our people. Our culture is not only comprised of talented, hardworking professionals, but those with big hearts who want to make a difference in the community and for various causes by being actively involved and working together to change people’s lives for the better.”
