Sonos formally announced its line of IKEA-partnered audio devices with the unveiling of the Symfonisk table lamp speaker and bookshelf speaker.
The Wi-Fi-enabled lamp speaker ($179 suggested retail) and bookshelf speaker ($99) can be controlled using the Sonos app. Both will be available in August — unsurprisingly, only through IKEA.
The bookshelf speaker, which can support up to 6.6 pounds, can be installed horizontally or vertically. It ships with a mounting bracket (with the on-brand moniker of Kungfors), or it can be installed using included hooks.
Said Tad Toulis, design VP at Sonos, in a statement: “This partnership has always been about our two companies’ shared passion, values and knowledge. IKEA and Sonos recognize the importance of great sound and its potential to positively affect life at home for the many people. We set out to create products neither of us would or could develop independently. To this end, since music and light are both instrumental in creating a sense of place, we developed a product that can deliver both.”
IKEA said these products are part of its bigger journey toward smarter homes, beginning with Qi-enabled furniture.
