KEF Launches The Q Series With MAT

New technology boosts performance of the latest generation of hi-fi speakers

KEF has introduced the newest generation of its Q Series of speakers, featuring Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT). The lineup of eight speakers is designed for stereo or multi-channel home theater applications where immersion is paramount.

The star point of the newest generation of the Q Series is the integration of MAT, an innovation that boosts the performance of the latest 12th generation Uni-Q driver array. MAT creates an acoustic black hole that KEF says absorbs 99% of unwanted sound, eliminating distortion. Additionally, the Uni-Q driver array has been redesigned to maximize the performance improvements that MAT delivers. From the conical waveguide that couples the tweeter dome to the metamaterial absorber has been specially designed for the driver based on its depth, to the re-engineered tweeter gap damper strategically placed two rings of porous material to tame resonances and imperfections.

Specific models of the Q Series have been upgraded from a 2.5-way to a 3-way speaker design. These speakers include the Q11 Meta, Q7 Meta, Q Concerto Meta, and Q6 Meta. The series is made up of two 3-way floor-standing models– the Q11 Meta and Q7 Meta, a selection of bookshelf speakers–the Q Concerto Meta, Q3 Meta, and Q1 Meta, as well as the first on-wall speaker in the Q range, the Q4 Meta.
