ActiveOn is going head-to-head with Go- Pro with it’s latest action cam, the featurerich ActiveOn CX.
The CX boasts a 2-inch LCD display, 1,100 mAh two-hour removable battery that can be swapped with accessory replacement batteries, a 5-megapixel CMOS video sensor that captures 1080p video at 30 frames per second, and a sixelement F/2.4 high-precision glass lens with a 160-degree field of view. It retails for a suggested $119.
“We’ve designed the ActiveOn CX to compete head-to-head with a comparable model from the industry leader. But the CX is better, since it includes an LCD screen for viewing what you’re recording as well as built-in Wi-Fi capability. It includes an iOS and Android smartphone app to easily control the camera’s functions, monitor live video, and share content directly to social media,” said Frank Donato, ActiveOn executive VP.
In addition to the CX camera, buyers get a waterproof case, adhesive mount, battery and charging cable.
“The waterproof case is airtight up to 196 feet under water and the adhesive mount can stick to about any surface. This battery lasts up to two hours, and if you need more time, you can quickly swap it out for a fresh one. And the CX comes with a universal quarterinch screw mount, so it fits on almost all standard tripods and mounts,” Donato explained.
The waterproof housing is removeable, and the camera includes an Aqua mode to minimize distortion when shooting under water.
The CX shoots time-lapse photos and video, is equipped with auto image rotation, and can be personalized with one of six optional face-plates in white, lime, orange, red, blue and purple.
It also includes a menu-driven interface that allows a user to toggle between video and photo modes. As a digital camera, the CX can shoot 5-megapixel images with a burst rate of 3 or 5 fps. Video can be shot at 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps for slow motion content. The CX also comes equipped with a MicroHDMI output.
Add-on accessories include a head strap, chest strap, handle bar mount, housing kit replacements, tripod mounts, motor sport suction mount, wrist strap, selfie stick, hand grip, suction and adhesive mounts for action sports, additional batteries, MicroSD cards and a battery charger, with more coming, the company said.
