Thinkware pairs both cameras with Sony STARVIS 2 sensors, utilizing an 8.4MP sensor up front and a 5.14MP sensor in the rear. The ARC 900’s Dual HDR processing helps maintain balance in difficult lighting situations, preventing highlights from becoming overly bright while preserving shadow detail.
The camera also offers a higher-frame-rate recording mode that captures 60fps footage at reduced resolutions. While not everyone will use this setting, it can be beneficial for drivers who frequently travel on highways where faster-moving traffic can make details more difficult to capture.

Our Testing Experience
TWICE took the ARC 900 on the road to test its performance in real-world situations, and we were impressed with the quality of the recordings. What stood out most, however, is the overall ease of use. Between the touchscreen interface, intuitive menus, and reliable connectivity options, the ARC 900 feels designed for people who may actually need to access footage quickly after an incident rather than spending time navigating complicated menus.
Thinkware includes links to installation instructions, and we found them easy to follow…until it came to hiding the wires. This step is extremely vehicle-specific, and while a trim tool is included, hiding wires can be a make-or-break factor for many consumers. We suggest users enlist the help of a mechanic (or a mechanically inclined friend or family member) if this step is overwhelming. This can lead to unanticipated costs, but it also provides retailers with an opportunity to offer an installation option for a sale.
Once installed and connected, the ARC 900 worked flawlessly, recording footage smoothly and clearly. Nighttime recording is equally important for a dash cam, and we found that the ARC 900 performs well here. Thinkware’s Super Night Vision 4.0 technology works alongside the STARVIS 2 sensors to improve visibility in darker environments while reducing image noise. Our tests showed headlight glare reasonably controlled, and the footage remained usable even on roads with limited street lighting.
In daytime driving, the footage appeared sharp and detailed. Road signs were easy to read, vehicle details remain visible at a distance, and exposure remains well controlled even during bright afternoon sunlight. When it came time to retrieve footage, the built-in USB-C connection allowed easy transfer, and transfer times were reasonable – even with higher resolution footage.
Verdict
