Review: Cleer ARC 5

Open-ear earbuds deliver a premium listening experience without disconnecting you from the world

Open-ear audio has quickly become one of the more interesting categories in personal audio, especially as consumers look for products that balance awareness, comfort, and performance. After spending time with the new Cleer ARC 5 open-ear earbuds, what stood out most is how aggressively the product pushes beyond the limitations that have traditionally defined the category.

Most open-ear earbuds prioritize convenience and situational awareness but often compromise on immersive sound. The ARC 5 feels designed specifically to challenge that tradeoff. Building on the previous ARC platform, the latest version introduces meaningful improvements in sound quality, comfort, smart functionality, and overall refinement — enough to position it as a serious premium audio product rather than simply an “active lifestyle” accessory.

Right away, the ARC 5 feels like a more mature product than many open-ear competitors currently on the market. The slimmer ear-hook design and lighter weight immediately improve wearability, especially during extended listening sessions. At just 11.5 grams per earbud, the ARC 5 sits securely without creating the pressure points that can sometimes make open-ear products fatiguing over time. For workouts, commuting, or long workdays, that difference becomes noticeable quickly.

Visually, the design also feels cleaner and more polished than earlier-generation open-ear earbuds. It maintains the sporty flexibility consumers expect from the category while introducing a more premium aesthetic that aligns better with today’s higher-end personal audio products.

What ultimately defines the ARC 5, however, is not the open-ear design itself — it’s how immersive the listening experience feels despite remaining aware of your surroundings. The combination of THX Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos optimization, Head Tracking, and Snapdragon Sound creates a much larger and more dimensional soundstage than most consumers will expect from an open-ear product.

Instead of audio feeling confined near the ear, the presentation expands outward in a way that feels more cinematic and spatially layered, especially with movies, live recordings, gaming, and sports content. Head Tracking adds another layer to the experience, with audio positioning subtly shifting as you move to maintain a more realistic spatial presentation. It’s one of those features that sounds gimmicky until you actually experience it — then quickly becomes difficult to ignore when going back to standard earbuds.

What impressed me most is that the ARC 5 still manages to retain strong vocal clarity and respectable bass response while maintaining the openness that defines the category. That balance is difficult to achieve, particularly in open-ear products where sound leakage and thin audio presentation can often become issues.

One of the biggest advantages of open-ear listening is maintaining awareness of your surroundings, and the ARC 5 handles this particularly well. Whether walking outdoors, working in a shared office, or using them at home, there’s a level of environmental awareness that traditional sealed earbuds simply can’t provide. But unlike earlier open-ear products that often sounded thin or distant, the ARC 5 still feels immersive enough to satisfy users who genuinely care about audio quality. That makes it much more versatile than a typical fitness-focused wearable.

The AMOLED touchscreen smart case initially feels like a novelty feature, but after spending time with it, it becomes surprisingly practical. Being able to monitor battery levels, control playback, adjust EQ settings, and manage functions directly from the case adds convenience without forcing users to constantly reach for their phone. The inclusion of UV-C sterilization is another thoughtful addition that enhances the overall premium positioning of the product.

Combined with multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, app customization, and voice assistant support, the ARC 5 creates a noticeably more complete ecosystem than many earbuds in this category. Battery performance is another strong point, with up to 60 hours of total playback including the charging case. In everyday use, the ARC 5 easily handles multiple days of listening without creating battery anxiety, while fast charging proves genuinely useful by delivering meaningful playback time from only a short charge session.

The IPX7 waterproof rating further expands the product’s flexibility for fitness, travel, and outdoor use — all while maintaining the lighter, more comfortable fit.

At $219.99, the ARC 5 sits firmly in the premium earbud category, but what makes the value proposition compelling is how much technology and refinement is packed into the experience. THX Certification, THX Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos optimization, Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless, Head Tracking, an AMOLED touchscreen smart case, multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, and long battery life are features typically associated with flagship earbuds at even higher price points.

For retailers, that creates an easy differentiation story. This is not simply another true wireless earbud — it’s a lifestyle-focused premium audio product that merges immersive entertainment, comfort, and situational awareness into a single platform.

The Cleer ARC 5 succeeds because it doesn’t treat open-ear audio as a compromise category. Instead, it approaches it as an opportunity to rethink how consumers experience entertainment, communication, and everyday listening while remaining connected to the world around them.

By combining immersive spatial audio technologies, refined ergonomics, smart functionality, and strong overall usability, Cleer has created a product that feels genuinely differentiated in an increasingly crowded personal audio market. For TWICE readers watching the evolution of premium wireless audio, the ARC 5 stands out as one of the more ambitious and well-executed open-ear products to enter the category this year.
