PHILADELPHIA — National majap and CE distributor Almo Corp. has been tapped to provide the premium Bosch home appliance line to small- and medium-sized dealers throughout the U.S. beginning Aug. 1.

Bosch parent BSH Home Appliances had previously distributed its products directly to that channel.

BSH senior sales VP John Iacoviello said the manufacturer chose Almo “to ensure that our important smaller and medium-sized dealers continue to receive best-in-class service … This is a key strength and core competence of [Almo].”

Survey: LG Tops In Global Washer Sales, Again

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. – LG washers were the best-selling brand worldwide in 2010 in both unit volume and sales revenue, according to survey data from German market research firm GfK Group. The data, covering 50 countries, show that the manufacturer was the global market share leader for the past three years, was No. 1 in front-load washers for the last two years, and led the U.S. in front-load market share for the last four.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – Price promotions, soft sales and high raw materials costs led to a 43-percent decline in Electrolux’s earnings during the first quarter ended March 31.

Operating income fell to 696 million kronor while net sales slipped 7 percent to 23.4 billion kronor.

In North America, net sales rose 1.8 percent to 6.7 billion kronor excluding the impact of unfavorable currency fluctuations, on a 71 million kronor loss for the quarter.

BENTON HARBOR, MICH. — Whirlpool reported higher net earnings and sales for the first quarter ended March 31.

Net earnings were $169 million compared to $164 million reported during the same period last year.

Sales of $4.4 billion increased 3 percent from the $4.3 billion reported in the first quarter of 2010.

First-quarter operating profit totaled $228 million compared with $241 million in the prior year.

FAIRFIELD, CONN. – GE’s first quarter report stated its home & business solutions unit had higher sales and earnings in the first quarter ended March 31.

The unit, which includes GE Appliances, had revenues of $1.98 billion, a 3 percent gain, and operating profit of $74 million, a 4 percent gain over last year’s first quarter.

The only specific mention of GE Appliances in the report was that the company implemented an April price increase.

LG Maintains Top Slot In Front Load: Stevenson

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — LG Electronics lead the U.S. market in residential front-load clothes washers during the fourth quarter of 2010. According to data from The Stevenson Company’s TraQline report, the period marked the 16th consecutive quarter in which LG took top share of the U.S. front-load washer market by revenue. LG first attained the top slot less than four years after entering the U.S. market.

NEW YORK — The nation’s two largest buying groups, BrandSource and Nationwide, are forecasting moderate gains for major appliances in the second half of the year.

But that will follow a tepid first half as dealers face tough year-over-year comparisons to the opening months of 2010, when a federally funded and state-administered majap rebate program artificially fueled sales.

MINNEAPOLIS — Best Buy has upped the whitegoods stakes by offering free delivery and 18-month no-interest financing as standard on all purchases over $429.

The chain described the free-delivery offer, valued at $70, and the zero-percent terms, good if paid in full within 18 months, as an “industry-leading combination.” Best Buy will also haul away and recycle the old appliances for no additional charge.
