InFocus Revives ScreenPlay For New FullHD DLP Projector

Wilsonville, Ore. - In the first home-theater announcement since new ownership has taken control, InFocus said Wednesday that it is reviving the ScreenPlay projector line for home-theater placement with the introduction of the SP8602.

InFocus' ScreenPlay SP8602InFocus' ScreenPlay SP8602 1080p DLP model.The DLP projector, which will ship in late September at $4,999 suggested retail, features 1,300 lumens of brightness, native 1080p resolution and a 30,000:1 maximum contrast ratio.

"When we decided to build on the tradition of the InFocus ScreenPlay series, we knew that we had to make this projector one of our best home-theater models yet," said Benjamin Joy, InFocus product line director. "The InFocus ScreenPlay 8602 combines rich styling, stunning imagery, full features and connectivity to create a truly immersive cinema experience that will amaze both casual and hardcore home theater enthusiasts."

The ScreenPlay 8602 incorporates Texas Instruments DLP DarkChip technology with BrilliantColor, capable of displaying varying shades of blacks and more than 1 billion colors.

Video processing is handled with a Pixelworks DNX 10-bit processor, and includes a proprietary motion engine with 120Hz support for fluid fast-motion images.

For installation purposes, the projector includes a centered lens with lens shifts (+5 percent/-30 percent vertical, and +/- 15 percent horizontal) for up to a 300-inch screen sizes; an automatic ceiling detection system to flip the image when necessary; and image warping to adjust the picture on imperfect surfaces.

The SP8602's outer design features optional interchangeable "skins" to match the décor of most media room. The skins allow users to choose from matte black, matte white, glossy black, walnut or pre-primed for custom design installations.

Inputs include a complete suite of analog and digital connectivity, including onboard HDMI 1.3 support.
