Updated! Despite the hubbub around Thanksgiving Day store openings, Kmart, for more than two decades now, has traditionally skipped the turkey and went straight for the sales.
This year will be no different, as the discounter’s just-leaked Thanksgiving circular touts another 6 a.m. opening on Thursday, much to the chagrin of bleary-eyed store workers.
But that’s just the beginning of the unmatched holiday marathon, which will continue around the clock until 10 p.m. the following night (Nov. 27).
The sale itself is a non-event from a CE perspective, at least according to the leaked ads, with the eight-page insert almost entirely built around home items and toys, save for a $400 18.2-cubic-foot Kenmore top-mount fridge in white and a 3.5-cubic-foot chest-style freezer from Igloo for $100.
What isn’t heralded are the chain’s daily, unannounced in-store promotions, now that Kmart’s signature Bluelight Specials — the original flash sales — are back following a 15-year absence.
In addition, Sears’ sister chain is offering cash- and credit-strapped customers four days of no-money-down layaway, to help keep them from leaving the stores empty handed.
