Samsung Teams With ADT For DIY Home Security Starter Kit

Samsung is partnering with ADT for a line of a DIY home-security solutions employing Samsung’s SmartThings platform.

Two products will become available on Oct. 29: a Home Security Starter Kit and a Home Safety Expansion Pack. They will be sold through Best Buy and on Samsung’s website and SmartThings.com.

The products are supported by ADT’s monitoring service, and consumers can sign up for month-to-month service plans, according to the company. 

The starter kit includes a security hub, two door and window detectors, and a motion detector. The hub features a 7-inch touchscreen with a built-in siren, battery, cellular data backup, and encryption wireless technology. The expansion pack lets consumers add additional sensors, such as fire, carbon monoxide and water detection.

The security hub also works as a SmartThings Hub, enabling users to control and monitor third-party smart-home devices via the SmartThings mobile app. Consumers can start and stop their ADT monitoring service within the app as well. 

The starter kit starts at $549 while the expansion pack starts at $199. Monthly monitoring is available starting at $14.99 for life safety and $24.99 for security services.

This is the not the first time ADT has teamed with a CE manufacturer for DIY home security. It also offers security solutions with LG. An ADT spokesman told TWICE there would be no change in this program, adding, “We believe these solutions address two different customer segments.
