LG, ADT In Pact To Offer DIY Home Automation

Boca Raton, Fla. – LG is teaming up with ADT Corp. to enter the U.S. do-it-yourself home-automation market this year.

ADT currently offers installed and monitored home-security systems with automation capabilities.

The all-in-one LG Smart Security hub co-developed by the companies will be available in the fall. Details of the go-to-market strategy will be divulged during the summer, an ADT spokesman told TWICE.

The in-door hub incorporates 1080p night-vision camera with 150-degree field of view, motion detection, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, and the wireless Z-Wave and Zigbee HA 1.2 home-automation standards.

It also features light, temperature, humidity, and pressure sensors.

Like other DIY home-security and automation systems, the hub will send alerts to smartphone and tablets and let users monitor and control smart-home devices from remote locations. It will also let users stream video from the hub’s camera.

Consumers, however, will also get the option to subscribe to ADT for additional protection on a no-contract basis, the spokesperson said. “We will have ADT professional monitoring added as a service on this device as well, meaning if an alarm is triggered and someone is breaking into your home, you won’t just watch the event unfold via a video clip,” he said. “ADT will have already dispatched response services to the home, just as we do with traditional security.” ADT will also enable cloud-based video storage and retrieval.

The hub “combines secure ADT professional monitoring and video hosting with a security camera gateway solution…to serve the growing segment of consumers demanding best-in-class professional security monitoring, coupled with an intuitive, premium product,” the company added.
