ADT has dropped the other shoe in its relationship with Google with the release of three new Google Nest-compatible ADT Self Setup DIY smart home security system bundles.

Three months ago, ADT announced its ADT+ app to provide combined control over ADT and Google Nest consumer home security devices.

However, the new bundle is only available for purchase only on the ADT.com site. ADT has not indicated if or when the bundle will be available for sale via other retailers. However, consumers can expand on the system kit with Google Nest devices purchased through other retail channels.

“Along with Nest inclusive products, the new system brings new ways to control your smart home products, including the ADT+ app, voice control, and tap control,” explains ADT CTO Raya Sevilla. “Self Setup differentiates itself from other DIY home security systems by offering an affordable option with no long-term contracts. Additionally, the new system brings DIY flexibility with a highly intuitive installation process.”

According to Sevilla, the ADT products in the Self-Setup systems are new and exclusive for Self-Setup, while the Google products include existing Nest products. There are 16 compatible products in all: ADT Smart Home Hub, ADT Keypad, ADT Keychain Remote, ADT Door/Window Sensor, ADT Motion Sensor, ADT Flood & Temperature Sensor, ADT Smoke Detector, Nest Doorbell (battery), Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery), Nest Cam (indoor, wired), Nest Thermostat, Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Wi-Fi, Nest Mini (2nd gen), Nest Hub (2d gen) and Nest Hub Max.

There are three pre-configured ADT Self Setup kits for sale:

  • Build Your Own ($194.98): Includes the ADT Smart Home Hub and a single door/window sensor, with the option of adding basic 24/7 professional ADT monitoring for an additional subscription of $24.99/month.
  • Starter ($479.99): Includes an ADT Smart Home Hub, one Nest Doorbell (battery-powered), four ADT door and window sensors, 2 ADT motion sensors, an ADT yard sign and four window stickers, and an option for “Starter” 24/7 monitoring subscription ($34.99/month).
  • Premium ($579.98): Includes everything in the Starter System plus a voice command capable second-generation Nest Hub that includes a 7-inch screen, and an option for “Premium” level 24/7 monitoring subscription ($34.99/month) that includes remote live video and trigger-based clips.

All three system kits are marked down 30% until April 27.

Each ADT Self Setup system can be additionally configured with any of the aforementioned system-compatible devices. Customers with existing compatible ADT or Nest components also can expand their system on an ad hoc basis at any time, all controlled via the ADT+ app.

While now compatible with Google Nest, the ADT Self Setup systems are not Matter compatible, at least not yet. “Integrating Matter into the ADT+ customer experience is a priority for the ADT’s engineering team,” Sevilla says. “ADT has not announced when it will make this available to our customers.”
