Shelly Launches Presence Gen4 Radar Sensor in North America

The camera-free sensor uses mmWave radar and customizable detection zones to support room-based smart home automation

Shelly has launched its Presence Gen4 radar sensor in North America, bringing camera-free occupancy detection and room-based automation capabilities to smart home integrators and homeowners.

The sensor uses millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar technology to detect people, including those who are sitting still, allowing automation systems to respond to occupancy rather than relying solely on motion detection. Shelly said the device can support automations for lighting, motorized shades, climate control and entertainment systems.

Presence Gen4 supports up to 10 customizable detection zones, allowing users to trigger actions based on where someone is located within a room. The sensor also provides a real-time occupancy map without capturing images, offering an alternative to camera-based presence monitoring.

Adjustable detection settings let users fine-tune sensitivity and filter out low-level movement from pets, robot vacuums and other objects. A built-in ambient light sensor reports dark, twilight, and bright conditions for lighting-related automations.

Connectivity and Integration

Presence Gen4 supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5 LE and Zigbee 3.0, along with Matter over Wi-Fi. It can integrate with Shelly Cloud, Home Assistant and other smart home platforms. The device also offers local control without requiring cloud connectivity, giving users another option for managing privacy and device operation. Designed for flexible placement, the sensor can sit on a shelf or tabletop or be mounted on a wall. It uses USB-C for power.

Shelly launched Presence Gen4 in North America in October. The sensor is priced at $84.99 in the U.S.
