Signify is expanding the role of smart lighting in home entertainment with the introduction of Sports Live, a new software experience for Philips Hue and Philips Smart Lighting connected by WiZ products that synchronizes lighting effects with live sporting events.
Scheduled to roll out ahead of Championship 2026, Sports Live uses live match data to trigger lighting responses during key moments in a game. Goals, yellow cards, and red cards can activate lighting effects throughout the home, extending the viewing experience beyond the television screen.
Unlike traditional TV lighting synchronization systems that rely on HDMI-based hardware to analyze on-screen content, Sports Live is driven by live sports data. The system connects directly to match information and responds to events as they occur, allowing compatible smart lights to react in near real time.
According to Signify, users can adjust timing settings to compensate for broadcast delays that may vary between television providers and streaming services. If a match is paused, lighting effects pause as well and resume when playback continues.
The platform also adapts lighting during less eventful portions of a match. Depending on user preferences, lights can display a favorite team’s colors, reflect the leading team’s colors, or switch to a neutral white setting when the score is tied.
Setup is handled through either the Philips Hue or WiZ mobile app. Hue users connect through a Hue Bridge and can assign compatible color-capable lights to the experience. WiZ users can access the feature through the company’s Wi-Fi-based platform without requiring additional hub hardware.
Signify says the software is designed to work with existing entertainment features, including Hue Sync and WiZ Sync with TV, while eliminating the need for additional synchronization hardware specifically for sports viewing.
The launch comes as smart home manufacturers continue looking for new ways to enhance entertainment experiences beyond movies and gaming. Sports viewing remains a significant opportunity, particularly as consumers invest in larger displays, immersive audio systems, and connected home technologies.
Sports Live will begin appearing within the Philips Hue and WiZ apps in May, with a broader rollout scheduled for June 2026 to coincide with the start of Championship 2026. The feature will be available for compatible Philips Hue and WiZ smart lighting products.
