Birdfy will provide free lifetime automatic bird species identification across its smart birdwatching lineup, removing the separate subscription previously required for the feature. The service covers more than 6,000 supported species and applies to both new and existing device owners.
Customers can access the feature by registering in the Birdfy app and linking their device. The benefit is available across the app’s Free, Plus, and Pro memberships, all of which use the same species-identification model. There are no daily identification limits or trial periods.
“Every backyard has a cast of characters, and getting to know them is part of the joy of birding,” said Allen Chen, Founder & CEO of Birdfy. “We believe identifying those visitors should come with the Birdfy experience. Making automatic bird species identification free for life helps everyone keep discovering, learning, and enjoying their backyard birds. And because longtime members of our flock matter just as much as new ones, existing customers are included, too.”

Birdfy’s product lineup includes smart bird feeders, bird baths, and birdhouses with connected features and automatic species identification. The company said the free lifetime feature is also included with devices purchased as holiday gifts.
Optional Plus and Pro memberships will remain available for customers seeking additional features, including identification of a bird’s sex, age category and potential health indicators. Existing customers with access to these enhanced identification features will retain their entitlements.
