Mahwah, N.J. – Marantz is rolling out another new networked audio product, a combination network audio player/DAC with high-resolution audio support.

The $1,199-suggested NA8005, expected at retail in July, is part of the Marantz 8005 series, which consists of the $1,199-suggested PM8005 integrated amplifier and $1,199 SA8005 CD/SACD player with USB DAC. All three components are part of the brand’s two-channel hi-fi line of components.

Last week, the D+M Group brand unveiled the $699-suggested slim-line networked NR 1605 A/V receiver with built-in Wi-Fi and built-in Bluetooth.

The NA8005 streams high-resolution music via Ethernet port from networked computers and mobile devices and direct from USB-connected computers. It also streams music direct from the Internet via integrated Internet radio stations and Spotify Connect. The player/DAC also connects to Apple mobile devices via USB to play back device-stored music in PCM form. USB sticks and other mobile devices can be connected to the USB ports to play back music.

The component features DLNA 1.5 and Apple AirPlay to stream from networked computers and mobile devices. Supported network streams include DSD, FLAC HD 192/24, WAV 192/24, and ALAC with gapless playback. Other supported codecs over a network connection include WAV, WMA, MP3, FLAC and MPEG-4 AAC.

Physical inputs include front-panel USB-A input and rear-panel USB-B, coaxial, and optical inputs. The back-panel USB-B port works in asynchronous mode and streams 192/24 PCM, 2.8MHz DSD, and 5.6MHz DSD from a USB-connected computer.

The device also incorporates a discrete headphone amplifier and comes with remote that controls the PM8005 amplifier and SA8005 CD/SACD player.

The player/DAC features Marantz’s HDAM and HDAM-SA2 audio circuitry to achieve low noise and high speed. It also uses “thorough isolation and filtering” to block noise that could enter from a PC, the company said.
