LG Readies Fashion-Oriented Smart Watch

Seoul – LG is expanding its selection of Android Wear-based smart watches with its first all-metal model, which resembles a luxury watch.

The LG Watch Urbane, which will be launched at the March 2-5 Mobile World Congress, will join the G Watch R, which was launched in October 2014 as the first smartwatch with a full circular plastic OLED (P-OLED) display. The Urbane features the same 1.3-inch full-circle P-OLED 320 by 320 245ppi display as the G Watch.

The G Watch R was designed for active users, but the Urbane’s thinner profile and narrower bezel, choice of silver or gold finish, and stitched leather strap positions it as a luxury smartwatch for men and women, the company said. The strap can be replaced with any 22mm wide band.

The Urbane features touch-based UI, compatibility with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above, and PPG heart rate sensor to measure a wearer’s heart rate and average pulse during exercise. An always-on ambient mode shows the time at all times in dimmed mode to save battery life.

The watch runs a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset and comes with 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, 410mAh battery, nine-axis gyro/accelerometer/compass, barometer, and IP67 dust and water resistance.

Pricing and availability in various countries hasn’t been released.

The G Watch R is available through carriers, retailers and Google, which prices it at $299.
