New York — We’re not in Gotham anymore.
Or so Batman declares in the trailer Lego has released to tease its upcoming Dimensions gaming toys. The line, which is expected to be a strong contender to the Activision Skylanders, Disney Infinity and Nintendo Amiibo franchises, is now available for preorder at GameStop. A starter pack for $99.99, and several figure packs starting at $14.99, become available Sept. 27.
Interactive gaming toys have proven to be a reliable growth driver for gaming. Sales rose 44 percent last month and are up 23 percent year to date, according to The NPD Group. Forty percent of parents own at least one franchise, while 41 percent of these families also own additional franchises. What’s more, 65 percent said they were extremely or very likely to purchase a new game within the next six months.
