ASCENDO Introduces THE MULE 10 Kick Woofer

Designed to deliver upper-bass impact while limiting excitation of low-frequency room modes

ASCENDO Immersive Audio has introduced THE MULE 10, a 10-inch kick woofer designed to provide additional upper-bass output in home theater and stereo systems without driving the lowest room frequencies.

Unlike a traditional subwoofer, THE MULE 10 is designed to handle the upper-bass range associated with drum impacts and other transient sounds. It can be used to extend speakers rolled off below approximately 80 Hz, provide near-field bass, or add low-frequency sources to systems using Dirac Live ART (Active Room Treatment).

“Some of the most convincing bass isn’t necessarily the lowest bass, but the fast, physical hit that makes drums, dynamics, and transients feel real,” says Geoffrey Heinzel, ASCENDO co-managing partner. “In addition to the essential deep bass from ASCENDO infrasubs and traditional subwoofers, our customers wanted a dedicated ‘kick’ solution that adds punch and presence without exciting the lowest room modes. That’s exactly why we built THE MULE 10 Kick Woofer.”

The module can be paired with monitors to extend their low-frequency response or used alongside an infrasonic subwoofer for full-range coverage. It supports active or passive crossover configurations and is intended for use with speakers that roll off around 80 Hz, including ASCENDO’s THE5, THE6, THE10 and THE12 models.

For near-field applications, the woofer can be positioned close to the listening area to provide tactile bass impact. It can also serve as an additional low-frequency source in systems using Dirac Live ART.

THE MULE 10 uses a 10-inch carbon-composite cone and a 4.5-inch voice coil. Its motor structure is rated for 2,500 watts, with peak power capability of 5,000 watts. The driver is housed in a cast frame, with an enclosure featuring aluminum front and back plates and internal bracing.

The enclosure is less than 4 inches (102 mm) deep and designed to fit between standard 16-inch (406 mm) wall studs. Adjustable mounting brackets support wall and ceiling installation, while keyhole hangers are included for on-wall mounting.
