Space heaters tend to be pretty straightforward: turn one on, point it in your general direction, and wait for the room to warm up. DREO takes a more innovative approach with its new Whole-Room Heater 720S, combining focused personal heating and 360-degree whole-room heating in one compact, thoughtfully designed unit.
That versatility is what immediately caught my attention. I can see the 720S being particularly useful in a home office, where there are times when I only want heat directed toward my desk and others when I’d rather warm the entire room. Instead of having to choose between those two types of heaters, DREO essentially gives you both.
The 720S accomplishes this with what the company calls AutoShift Technology. A motorized mechanism raises and lowers the upper portion of the heater depending on the selected mode. In Focused Mode, airflow is concentrated in one direction for personal heating. Switch to 360-degree Whole-Room Mode, and the heater changes its configuration to distribute warm air throughout the space.
It’s a clever alternative to the oscillating design found on many conventional space heaters. Rather than simply sweeping heated air back and forth, the 720S can change how it delivers that heat based on how you’re using the room. It’s a simple idea that makes the heater much more adaptable to everyday life.
Underneath that design is a 1500W PTC ceramic heating system using DREO’s Hyperamics technology. The company says the 720S can begin delivering heat in as little as two seconds and produce airflow of up to 4.1 meters per second. In Focused Mode, DREO says airflow velocity increases by approximately 35%, while the 360-degree setting is designed to distribute heat across rooms of roughly 270 square feet.
Those are impressive specifications, but what I like most about the 720S is how they translate into flexibility. Sitting at a desk for several hours doesn’t always require heating every corner of the room, so being able to concentrate the warmth where I need it makes a lot of sense. When I want to warm the entire space, I can switch modes without repositioning the heater or relying solely on oscillation.
Quiet operation is another big plus, especially for a heater intended for a home office or bedroom. DREO rates the 720S as operating as quietly as 25 dB, thanks in part to its BLDC motor and centrifugal fan. That’s an important feature for anyone who plans to have the heater running while working, taking calls, watching television, or sleeping. The less noticeable a space heater is while doing its job, the better.
DREO has also put considerably more thought into the appearance than I typically expect from this category. The cylindrical design, integrated temperature display, and motorized upper section give the 720S a clean, modern look. This is a heater I wouldn’t mind leaving out in my office rather than immediately wanting to put it away when I’m not using it.
The convenience features add to that experience. Touch controls are integrated into the unit, while an included remote lets you make adjustments from across the room. ECO temperature control allows you to select a desired temperature rather than simply leaving the heater running continuously. Together, these features make the 720S feel more like a modern home appliance than a traditional portable space heater.
At around $120, the 720S does cost more than a basic ceramic heater, but I think the additional functionality helps make the case for that premium. You’re getting more than a heater that simply blows hot air in one direction. The ability to move between personal and whole-room heating gives the 720S a level of versatility that could make it useful in several rooms throughout the home.
That’s particularly appealing to me. I could use Focused Mode at my desk during the workday, switch to 360-degree heating when I want the entire office warmer, or move the 720S into a bedroom or living space when needed. One heater can adapt to several different situations.
Ultimately, DREO has taken a familiar home appliance and found a genuinely useful way to improve it. The 720S combines plenty of heating power with an innovative dual-mode design, quiet operation, convenient controls, and an appearance that’s considerably more refined than the average space heater.
For anyone looking for the absolute cheapest way to add a little supplemental heat, there are certainly simpler options. But if you’re willing to spend a little more for greater versatility and a more polished experience, I think the DREO Whole-Room Heater 720S makes a compelling case.
For me, it’s the combination of focused and 360-degree heating that really sets the 720S apart. Rather than simply generating heat, DREO gives you more control over how and where that warmth is delivered. With winter approaching, that’s exactly the kind of flexibility I’d like to have in my home office.
