Toshiba Ships Consumer Tablet PC

Irvine, Calif. — Toshiba Digital today introduced its least expensive Tablet PC, the R15-S822.

With a $1,599 suggested retail, the R15-S822 is the first Toshiba Tablet PC specifically targeted at the consumer market. Because it is a convertible device with a full-sized keyboard, it can be used as a conventional desktop replacement notebook computer. However, when the keyboard is folded back it fully exposes the 14.1-inch display, which has the same writing surface area as an 8.5-inch by 11-inch piece of paper. The R15-S822, a third-generation Tablet PC, is bundled with Microsoft’s Office OneNote 2003 writing and drawing software.

The computer is powered by an Intel Pentium M 725 processor, running at 1.6GHz, and Intel 855 chipset, 512MB of memory, 60GB hard drive DVD/CD-RW drive and three USB ports. It weighs about 6 pounds.

The unit is available as of today at retail and direct from Toshiba.
