LG Electronics Recalls 161,000 Ranges

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. – LG Electronics has voluntarily recalled about 161,000 electric ranges that present a burn and fire hazard.

According the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Com- mision (CPSC), ranges within the LRE series can fail to turn off and the temperature setting can increase unexpectedly during use. About 80 such incidents have been reported to LG, none of which involved fires or injuries.

Affected models — LRE30451, LRE30453, LRE30755, LRE30757 and LRE30955ST — were manufactured in South Korea and Mexico and sold na- tionwide at Best Buy, The Home Depot, Sears and in- dependent dealers between Jan. 2006 and June 2010 for between $800 and $1,999.

LG is offering consumers free in-home repairs.
