
Back-of-the-napkin estimates suggest that Sears Holdings will shutter as many as 90 more Kmart stores this summer, which would represent 10 percent of the fleet. The pattern of closures points to Kmart pulling out of entire regions, which begs the question … is the chain preparing for a total shutdown?
“It looks as if Sears Holdings (NASDAQ:SHLD) could be getting ready to shut Kmart down. Chain Store Age reported that Sears is planning to close 68 Kmart and Super Kmart stores during summer and fall. These closings are in addition to the 30 Kmart and Sears closures scheduled earlier this year.”
