The New Year is bringing another wave of store closures at Sears Holdings.
The retailer has announced plans to shut 39 Sears stores and 64 Kmart locations across 39 states between March and April. Pennsylvania is taking the biggest hit, with three Sears and 10 Kmart stores on the chopping block (see list of store closures below).
Sales associates were informed of the closings yesterday, and liquidation sales at the targeted locations will begin as soon as Jan. 12, Sears said.
In a statement, the company said it would continue to close unprofitable stores and “right size” its real estate as it balances its physical store footprint with its online capabilities.
The latest round of closures follows another 63 stores that are set to shut later this month. The retailer closed some 330 stores through the third quarter of last year.
A list of the newly fated locations is posted on Sears’ corporate website.
