Tech Journalist Stephen Booth Dies At Age 62

Stephen A. Booth, a veteran technology journalist, passed away peacefully May 27 at age 62 after a long illness.

Booth was well-respected for his fair, objective, and thorough coverage of the consumer electronics industry. He spent much of his career working for Consumer Electronics Daily, but he also served as editor-in-chief of Video Review magazine and as a staff editor with Popular Mechanics magazine. Steve’s byline also appeared in many other publications, including Rolling Stone and Popular Science.

He is remembered fondly by friends and colleagues at CES Publishing, where he worked early in his career.

Born in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, Booth lived in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and Hartsdale, N.Y., in recent decades. His passionate love of baseball was well-known, and he served as coach and board member of the Elmsford Little League for 17 years.

Booth is a graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School and New York University, where he developed a lifelong interest in history.

Booth is survived by Jody Booth and their two sons, James and Daniel, his brother Thomas and sister Vicky, and their families.

Services will be held this Monday, June 1, at McMahon Funeral Home, 491 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, N.Y. 10605. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Stephen’s memory to either Rosary Hill Home, 600 Linda Ave., Hawthorne, N.Y. 10532, or to Phelps Hospice, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. 10591.
