Lake Success, N.Y. – Canon USA unveiled Monday the EOS 6D midrange 35mm full-frame DSLR and a trio of PowerShot point-and-shoot cameras each with a standout attribute from Wi-Fi connectivity to extreme telephoto shooting.
The EOS 6D DSLR includes a newly designed 20.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5+ image processing, built-in wireless transmitter, and GPS features.
The camera also includes an 11-point AF array and 63-zone dual-layer iFCL metering sensor together with 1080p FullHD video capture.
Expected to ship to retail in December, the EOS 6D will carry a $2,099 estimated retail for the body only, and will be $2,899 for the body with the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens as a kit.
The EOS 6D is said to build upon the qualities of EOS 5D Mark II for advanced amateurs and videographers, while offering a durable a 100,000-cycle shutter design and EOS Integrated Cleaning System for the sensor.
The DIGIC 5+ image processor powers a 14-bit fast analog-to-digital conversion system enabling continuous shooting up to 4.5 fps.
Also offered is a wide ISO range from 100 to 25,600 with a low setting, L: 50, and two high settings, H1: 51200 and H2: 102400.
The EOS 6D camera’s autofocus (AF) system includes an 11-point AF sensor with a high-precision center cross-type point and EV -3 sensitivity rating for accurate focusing in low light.
Other features include a 3-inch 1,040,000-dot LCD with a 170 degree viewing angle and 100 percent frame coverage in live view; FullHD 1080p at 24, 25 and 30 fps; full manual control over exposure and audio levels while recording video; and up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds of continuous video recording (with 4GB automatic file partitioning) in selectable All in-frame or IPB compressions with embedded time code.
A built-in wireless transmitter allows the camera to share images and video with a range of devices from PowerShot cameras to smartphones and tablets, as well as Cloud-based servers such as social-networking sites.
The Canon EOS Remote app is a free wireless feature available for iOS and Android systems that will allow a smartphone or wireless device such as a tablet to remotely connect, control and operate the connected EOS 6D.
A built-in GPS receiver records longitude, latitude, elevation and Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) as EXIF data for geo-tagging while shooting.
Other features are High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode, Multiple Exposure mode, four different compositing methods, including Additive, Average, Bright and Dark.
The EOS 6D will allow captured RAW image files to be the starting point for a new Multiple Exposure composite image. The camera is compatible with SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards, including the new Ultra High Speed (UHS-I) cards.
The three new PowerShot digicams include the: G15, PowerShot S110, and PowerShot SX50 HS – all providing advanced features, greater focusing speed and multiple-shot speed.
The G15, S110 and SX50 HS are expected to ship in October with estimated retails of $500, $450 and $480, respectively.
All three have improved AF technology for high-speed responsive AF systems with reduced lag time.
Both the PowerShot G15 and PowerShot S110 models include new 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensors with strong light gathering capability.
Each model brings an advanced feature designed to standout from the field including: an f/1.8-2.8 5x optical zoom lens on the PowerShot G15, Wi-Fi connectivity in the S110 and a 50x optical zoom lens on the SX50.
The PowerShot G15 features a 28mm wide-angle f/1.8 – f/2.8 lens with 5x optical zoom, low-light capability and a shallow depth of field.
Included is the HS system with the DIGIC 5 image processor and 1/1.7-inch 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor enabling an ISO range to 12,800. It includes FullHD 1080p video capture with built-in stereo mic, improved AF time, and High-Speed Burst HQ mode with up to 10 fps shooting at 12.1-megapixels.
The PowerShot G15 retains an accessory shoe for speedlites and an optical viewfinder as an option to the bright 3-inch 922,000-dot LCD display.
The PowerShot S110 offers pocket-sized convenience with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity to iOS or Android smartphones and tablets using the free Canon CameraWindow app.
The wireless features let the camera act as a wireless network and record GPS data.
Other features include a 24mm 5x optical zoom and bright f/2.0 aperture, HS system with DIGIC 5 image processing, and a 1/1.7-inch 12.1-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS image sensor allowing ISO speeds to 12,800. It also includes an improved AF system and high-speed burst shooting to 10 fps at 12.1-megapixels.
Video is captured in FullHD 1080p with built-in stereo mic, HDMI output and six stabilization modes.
A 3-inch touchpanel LCD screen has Canon’s Touch Shutter feature.
The PowerShot SX50 HS comes with a 50x optical zoom (24-1,200mm 35mm equivalent) and 24mm wide-angle lens with optical image stabilization.
It recorders FullHD 1080p video with stereo sound and includes an HS System with 12.1-megapixel resolution and a maximum ISO speed of 6400.
The improved AF system allows burst shooting to 10 fps at full resolution.
It also packs a 2.8-inch 461,000-dot variangle LCD with the ability to shoot overhead or low-angle shots. Zoom Framing Assist helps users locate, track and capture subjects while using the extreme telephoto. By pressing a button, the Zoom Framing Assist Seek function remembers the previous zoom position, zooms out to locate the subject, and zooms back in to the saved position when the button is released.
The PowerShot SX50 HS can be set to capture 12-bit RAW + JPEG image files and a hot shoe is added for Canon speedlites and other options.
Canon also announced a pair of Pixma PRO-series 13-inch inkjet printers, in the PRO-10 and PRO-100 models. The two models are said to produce excellent black-and-white and color prints with improved printing workflow using new Print Studio Pro plug-in software, wireless connectivity and faster printing speeds.
The estimated selling price of the Pixma PRO-10 and Pixma PRO-100 are $699 and $499, respectively.
