LG To Enter Kid-Tracking Market Later This Year

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — LG plans North American availability later this year of its first kid-tracking wearable, the KizOn, for preschool and primary school children.

KizOn is a water-resistant, stain-resistant polythiourethane (PTU) band that incorporates 2G/3G cellular, GPS and Wi-Fi location to give parents the ability to track their kids in real time through an app running on Android 4.1 or higher smartphones.

The band also features a One Step Direct Call button to dial a preconfigured phone number, which can be changed at any time through the parent’s smartphone. Parents can also call the child, and if the child fails to answer within 10 seconds, KizOn will automatically connect the call to let the parents hear what’s going on through the device’s built-in microphone.

The device will be available in several colors. Pricing was not announced.
