LG Formally Unveils V20 Flagship Phone

Does it have what it takes to dim the Galaxy? 9/07/2016 09:00:00 AM Eastern

After weeks of tidbit teasers, and just hours ahead of Apple’s expected iPhone 7 announcement, LG Electronics has formally launched its latest cellular pocket rocket.

The LG V20 blends the best of its direct antecedent, the V10, and its unconventional cousin, the G5, into a sleek, lightweight, 5.7-inch handset packed with enough “fun” features, the company hopes, to make for a compelling Android alternative to the reigning Samsung Galaxy flagships.

Decide for yourself:

Memory: 4GB RAM, 64GB onboard ROM and up to 2TB of MicroSD capacity

Main display: 5.7-inch QHD IPS (2,560 by 1,440, 513ppi)

Notification display: IPS (160 by 1,040, 513ppi)

Screen: extra-thick Gorilla Glass 4

Battery: removable 3,200 mAh

Cable type: USB-C

Materials: aeronautical aluminum (removable back cover) and shock-resistant silicone polycarbonate, for military-grade durability

Rear camera: 16-megapixel with F1.8 aperture at standard angle and 8-megapixel with F2.4 aperture at wide angle, featuring hybrid autofocus (integrating laser, phase detection and contrast adjustments)

Front camera: 5-megapixel wide angle with F1.9 aperture

OS: Android 7.0 Nougat (the first phone out of the gate with the update)

Colors: gray, silver, pink

Other key features include:

Video recording: enhanced video stabilization and audio quality (24-bit/48kHz LPCM);

Audio recording: captures studio-quality HD sound

Audio playback: First smartphone to feature 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, with support for lossless FLAC, DSD, AIFF and ALAC formats

Pricing and availability: Undisclosed, pending carrier launch announcements

Said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics and Mobile Communications, “The LG V20 is designed to offer customers a more dynamic experience by building on the most popular video and audio features of the V series … We are giving our customers more of everything they love and less of anything they don’t need to set a new standard for premium smartphones.”
