Best Buy To Carry Apple Watch

Minneapolis – Best Buy will be the first national retailer, besides Apple itself, to carry the manufacturer’s line of smart watches.

The No. 1 CE chain will begin carrying 16 Apple Watch models on Aug. 7 in over 100 stores and on BestBuy.com.

The rollout will extend to another 200 stores in advance of the holiday selling season.

“The Apple Watch is a big addition to our stores and website, and we know our customers want it,” said Best Buy senior category officer Jason Bonfig. “We are excited to bring the Apple Watch to more consumers, especially with the holidays coming up.”

The 16 models will include the Sport and Watch iterations in both 38mm and 42mm sizes, along with nearly 50 accessories including watch bands, screen shields, stands and chargers.

Not included in Best Buy’s Apple Watch assortment is the $10,000 Edition model, which remains an Apple exclusive.

Last week Apple CEO Tim Cook said his company’s watch sales exceeded both expectations and initial sales of the original iPhone and iPad, despite initial supply constraints, only 680 points of sale, and a lack of inventory in Apple stores until mid-June.

Cook wouldn’t disclose sales figures for competitive reasons, but research firm Strategy Analytics estimates that Apple shipped 4 million units in the second quarter to capture 75 percent of global smart watch shipments.
