Swiftpoint Debuts Pen-Grip Mouse
By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 7/19/2010
RICCARLTON, NEW ZEALAND — Swiftpoint entered the computer peripherals market this month with the introduction of the uniquely shaped Swiftpoint mouse. The Swiftpoint mouse, which operates via wireless USB, uses a pen grip and can dock directly to the USB receiver. Grant Odgers, CEO of Swiftpoint, told TWICE he came up with the idea because he was often frustrated by the inability to use a mouse in non-friendly mousing locations, such as in coffee shops or on the couch.
“We did a lot of market research that showed people wanted three things — accuracy, comfort and portability,” Odgers said. “We’ve been able to offer all three things.” The Swiftpoint mouse is 30 percent to 40 percent more accurate than a touchpad, he added.
It charges via the USB receiver, with a 90-minute charge expected to last two to four weeks, according to Odgers. It also comes with a “parking accessory” that applies to a laptop’s touchpad to prevent the Swiftpoint mouse from slipping off while not in use.
The device will be launching in August through Amazon and other e-tailers, and Odgers said the company would be launching in brickand- mortar retail locations by the end of the year.
One color (red and black) is currently available, but more colors are expected to roll out when Swiftpoint launches in brick-and-mortar locations, he said.
The mouse will retail for a suggested $69.95. It’s currently available for pre-order on Swiftpoint’s website.
