Sony Debuts Video Line At CEDIA

ATLANTA — Sony brings to CEDIA Expo a pair of models from its high-end Bravia XBR 10 1080p LCD TV line featuring an edge-lit LED lighting system, a pair of SXRD-based 1080p front projectors and a networkable Blu-ray Disc player.
Setting the performance bar for the 2009 Sony Bravia HD LCD TVs will be new XBR 10 models in the 46-inch and 52-inch screen sizes. Both will make their debuts this week.
Each includes FullHD 1080p resolution, edge-lit LED panel lighting technology that allows for thin-panel designs and reduced power consumption, and Sony's Motionflow 240Hz processing to provide smooth motion images of fast-motion sequences.
The system is said to provide for 1080p wireless real-time transmission for up to seven HD components using WiHD technology, allowing components to be placed out away from the display without the bother of long and unsightly cable runs.
The sets, which are slated to ship in October at prices to be announced, also feature built-in Bravia Internet video and widgets for playing Internet-based content and services.
Meanwhile, the company's new Network Blu-ray Disc player, model BDP-N460, will ship in October at a price to be announced. The player will feature built-in Bravia Internet video capability with access to streaming content services, including Netflix, Amazon On Demand, YouTube, Slacker Radio and others.
It will also support all advanced audio codecs and BD-Live functionality, with the addition of an optional 1GB or larger USB thumb drive to a rear-mounted port. A second USB 2.0 port on the front of the player will accept connections to storage devices for photo, video and music file playback.
Standard DVDs are up-scaled by the player to 1080p through Precision Cinema Upscale 24p True Cinema technology.
In projectors, Sony will unveil its latest SXRD models, highlighted by the Bravia VPL-VW85, which ships in September at a $7,000 suggested retail.
The VW85 features a 120,000:1 contrast ratio, Sony's Advanced Iris 3 technology, Motionflow 120Hz processing for smooth fast-motion sequences, a panel alignment function and anamorphic-ready mode.
The Bravia VPL-HW15, which ships in September at a $2,800 suggested retail, also offers SXRD 1080p resolution performance, and is listed with a 60,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,000 lumens of brightness output. The projector incorporates Sony's Advanced Iris 3 technology and Bravia Sync system.
