Featuring built-in access to the newly enhanced Vudu Internet-streaming movie service.

CEDIA Expo 2009 Irvine, Calif.  - Mitusbishi Digital Electronics America (MDEA) said Thursday it has begun shipping two Unisen Diamond 249 series LCD TVs with built-in access to the newly enhanced Vudu Internet-streaming movie service.

The 46-inch LT-46249 ($2,599 suggested retail) and 52-inch LT-52249 ($3,099), which feature FullHD 1080p resolution and a 16-speaker integrated sound projector system with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround, incorporate an Ethernet connection and embedded firmware supporting access to the Vudu streaming-movie service.

Once the TV is connected to a broadband Internet service, the Vudu streaming capability will be immediately available without the need for an additional device.

Mitsubishi joins LG and Vizio in announcing plans for the addition of embedded firmware in select TV models to receive the new Vudu movie-streaming capability. Earlier, Mitsubishi presented dealers with a promotion offering consumers a free Vudu set-top box with the purchase of select Mitsubishi HDTV sets, to enable Vudu movie downloads for playback on the connected TVs.

The new embedded capability and set-top box promotion give Mitsubishi a bundled promotional opportunity to compete with other brands offering TV/Blu-ray Disc player packages.

In addition, both Vudu and Mitsubishi announced that, for a limited time, owners of the Mitsubishi Vudu-enabled TVs will receive two months worth of free movies (up to $50 for the first 60 days.), in a choice of SD, HD and HDX resolution and sound-quality levels through the Vudu service.

The Vudu movies with the HDX option provide up to 1080p image quality and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround Sound.

"We are always looking to elevate the large-screen experience for consumers, and the Mitsubishi Vudu-enabled TVs will combine unprecedented HD program choice with unparalleled picture performance," stated Frank DeMartin, MDEA marketing VP. "Owners of Unisen Diamond Immersive Sound TVs will now have convenient access to high-quality entertainment content."

Vudu provides more than 2,200 HD titles and 16,000 titles overall.

In addition, Mitsubishi said that starting later this month the Unisen Diamond 249 LCD TVs will offer popular Internet services, including YouTube, Flickr, Picasa and Pandora, as well more than 80 channels of on-demand TV to choose from.

"Vudu's extensive HD library of newly released Hollywood titles provides the perfect entertainment solution for the Unisen Diamond LCD TVs," stated Alain Rossmann, Vudu CEO. "Through this collaboration with Mitsubishi, we are expanding the reach of the Vudu service to a broad new segment of consumers, providing an outstanding movie watching experience with true 1080p and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound."

In addition to the Vudu streaming capabilities, the Unisen 249 line LCD TV sets feature an UltraThin Frame design measuring less than 1 inch, Variable Smooth 240 Film Motion for improved viewing of fast- and slow-moving programs, and Enhanced Color.

Unisen LCD TVs feature wide color gamut backlight technology to reproduce approximately 25 percent more color than most LCD TVs.
