SonyEricson Plans More 1.7/2.1GHz Phones

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 8/24/2009

SonyEricsson plans to expand its selection of 3G phones that operate in the U.S. 1.7/2.1GHz Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) band.

The company, which already offers the AWS-banded TM506, plans fourth-quarter availability of the Jalou and limited-edition Jalou by Dolce&Gabbana. Both are clamshell models positioned as fashion accessories with facet-cut styling. The company didn't say whether they would be available unlocked or through an AWS-band 3G carrier.

The 2.87-inch-long phones features a walking-step counter and 2-inch screen that turns into a mirror at the touch of a button. The Jalou also features an interface that automatically displays updated zodiac signs and special events. It will be available in three “gem-inspired” colors.

The Dolce&Gabbana version will be available in rose with 24-carat gold plating and packaged with Dolce&Gabbana headset, content and three silky rose satin bags for the phone, charger or other accessories. The content includes an RSS feed of fashion trends, news and gossip as well as preloaded photos and videos from the designers' runway show.

Both feature 900/1,700/1,900MHz W-CDMA HSPA, quadband GSM/EDGE, 3.2-megapixel camera/camcorder with geo-tagging, assisted GPS, music player and stereo Bluetooth.
