SunRocket To Recommend 8x8 To Stranded Customers

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 7/19/2007

Santa Clara, Calif. — VoIP provider 8x8 has reached a deal with the organization winding down SunRocket’s shuttered business to transition their service over to Packet8.

Under the agreement, 8x8 will waive its start-up costs and offer a month’s worth of free service to SunRocket customers making the switch. According to 8x8, SunRocket will communicate with its 200,000-plus subscribers through an email and voicemail campaign and suggest they sign up for 8x8’s residential VoIP telephone service.

According to 8x8 CEO Bryan Martin, the firm has also made arrangements with its network operator to speed the porting of SunRocket phone numbers onto the 8x8 network.

SunRocket was the second largest pure-play VoIP telephony provider before it abruptly terminated its service this week. The Vienna, Va.-based company shut down without giving advanced notice to its customers.
