Syntax-Brillian Unveils 3 Olevia LCD TV Lines

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 7/19/2006

Tempe, Ariz. — Syntax-Brillian unveiled three lines of Olevia LCD TVs, representing what the manufacturer called “the company's first complete product offering since the completion of its merger in late 2005.”

New models will be delivered across three product series — the 3, 5 and 7 series — at various intervals between now and the end of September, starting with select 5 series that are shipping now.

Models in the new entry Olevia 3 Series are “HD-ready” LCD TV monitors intended for general consumer use using outboard cable and satellite set-top boxes or broadcast tuners, in addition to DVD players, VCRs and other source components. Resolution is listed as 1,366 by 768 pixels.

Both the 5 and 7 series models have fully integrated HD tuning. The company said it will disclose 3 and 5 series pricing closer to the actual shipping dates.

All models include advanced image processing technology and firmware upgradeability via a USB port.

Syntax-Brillian said the new models were “designed and engineered to elevate the Olevia brand to top-tier status among its peers.”

All models include Syntax-Brillian developed processing systems, including its Director's Image technology that “recreates the director's intended image through calibrated 6500K color temperature, gamma, optimized gray scales and adjustable black levels,” the company said.

Also included is the company’s Big Picture Technology, which “shows without distortion up to 11 percent more of digital broadcast images and up to 37 percent more of analog images,” the company said.

An unusual USB firmware upgrading system allows users to keep their TVs up to date with the latest features and image quality enhancements by downloading firmware software updates from Syntax-Brillian's Web site via a USB port.

The 5 series includes four models starting with the 27W-inch 527V ($799 suggested retail) with side-mounted speakers, which began shipping a few weeks ago. It will soon be joined by the 32W-inch 532H ($999) with below-screen speakers, the 37W-inch 537H ($1,499) with below-screen speakers and the 42W-inch 542I ($1,899) with interchangeable speaker locations.

Each Olevia 5 Series model features 1,366 by 768-pixel high-definition resolution and an 8ms response time. Also included are built-in ATSC and NTSC tuners.

Contrast is listed as 1600:1, and the viewing angle is said to be 178 degrees. Source connections include: PC compatibility of 1,360 by 768 at 60Hz through HDMI and VGA, and video compatibility through HDMI, HD component, composite and S-Video inputs.

The 7 Series will feature two models — 42W inches and 47W inches — both featuring 1,080p resolution. The advanced units include Silicon Optix HQV video processing built-in, along with dual ATSC/NTSC tuners and dual HDMI inputs.
