New Downsized iPod Shuffle Gets A Voice

Cupertino, Calif. — Apple’s third-generation iPod shuffle, a $79-suggested 4GB model, is smaller than its predecessor and gets a voice-announce feature to help users of the display-less device remember the names of the song, artist and playlist that are playing in their choice of 14 languages.
The device, said to be the first MP3 player with the VoiceOver voice-announce feature, is in silver or black aluminum through the Apple Store (www.apple.com), Apple's retail stores and Apple’s authorized resellers.
At almost half the size of its predecessor, the third-generation Shuffle is billed as the smallest music player in the world, at less than the size of an AA battery. It holds up to 1,000 songs based on four minutes per song encoded in the 128Kbps AAC format. In the 256Kbps AAC format, song capacity is up to 500 songs.
The shuffle’s shuffle feature randomly selects songs. Consumers who can’t remember the name of a song or an artist playing need to press a button to hear the name of the song, artist and playlist. The shuffle will also speak status information, such as battery life.
Its aluminum chassis is new, and it comes with built-in stainless-steel clip.
It comes with the remote-equipped earphones and USB cable. It requires a Mac with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later and iTunes 8.1 or later. It’s also compatible with Windows PCs with USB 2.0 port, Windows
