Sharper Image Creates New Licensing Div.

By Staff -- TWICE, 2/12/2007

San Francisco – Sharper Image has created a new licensing division to brand to manufacturers and retailers across a variety of product categories. The company will also provide licensing opportunities on other intellectual property, including patents and trademarks.

In order to increase its customer base and further quality and innovation in its product offerings, the company says it intends to license items in categories including: electronics, computers and communications; automotive; home furnishings; toys and more.  The products are expected to be available in mid-tier and other high-end retail channels, such as electronics, specialty and department stores as early as fall 2007. According to the company, licensees will also have the opportunity to sell into Sharper Image’s retail stores, catalogues and e-commerce Web site.

“We now have an ideal opportunity to capitalize on our strong heritage and expand the reach of The Sharper Image brand, and we see licensing as an integral element of our strategy to grow the business,” said Jerry W. Levin, Chairman and interim CEO of The Sharper Image in a release.

The new division will be led by John Spotts, most recently of Equity Management Inc., who has been hired as senior VP, brand licensing.
