Lexar Intros High-Speed CF Card, SDHC Readers

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 2/21/2007

Fremont, Calif. — Flash-memory maker Lexar will add a 300x speed CF card to its professional lineup in April, alongside a pair of high-speed card readers.

The new card is complaint with the new Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) interface standard. When used in digital cameras with UDMA, the card supports a minimum sustained write speed of 45MBps, which is 125 percent faster than the company’s previous high-speed CF card, Lexar said.

The new card will be available in capacities of 2GB, 4GB and 8GB. Pricing has yet to be determined.

UDMA-enabled digital SLRs are expected on the market later this year.

The cards will ship with a copy of Corel Paint Shop Pro X, Lexar Image Rescue 3 and Lexar Backup n Sync software.

To compliment the new UDMA CF card, the company will also introduce a reader capable of reading both UDMA CF cards and the new SDHC memory format. The USB 2.0 reader will retail for $49.99.

The company will also ship a Professional UDMA FireWire 800 reader for $79.99. It is a dedicated CF card reader with a stackable design, allowing it to be daisy chained to up to four other readers for concurrent downloading.
