Allstate Protection Plans Expands Carrier Reach Through ACG Partnership

Brings unique offerings that allow competition beyond pricing and coverage maps

Allstate Protection Plans (APP) is expanding deeper into the wireless and consumer electronics channel through a new partnership with the Associated Carrier Group (ACG), a consortium representing dozens of regional and independent mobile carriers across the United States.

The agreement gives ACG members access to Allstate’s protection plan infrastructure, including device protection, claims support, repair and replacement services, and customer service programs aimed at mobile carriers and resellers. The partnership reflects a broader trend in the wireless industry, where smaller carriers are looking for ways to compete beyond pricing and coverage maps.

The timing of the ACG partnership comes as carriers and retailers continue searching for new service-based revenue streams amid slowing smartphone sales growth. Protection plans, trade-in programs, and technical support services have become increasingly important attachment categories for wireless providers trying to improve margins without raising service costs.

“Back in 2010, the most expensive phone on the market was maybe $400. Now phones cost upwards of $1,200,” Roger Brown, VP, Mobile Growth Strategy, North America, APP, told TWICE in an interview. “When 25% of the U.S. population is living paycheck to paycheck, and another 25% is one paycheck away, and something goes wrong with that phone, it’s a different kind of financial event.”

The partnership with Allstate is positioned as a way for those carriers to offer protection and support programs that are typically associated with larger national operators. The announcement also highlights how protection plans are becoming more closely tied to customer retention and long-term service relationships. As device prices continue to rise and replacement cycles stretch longer, carriers have increasingly leaned on warranty, trade-in, and support programs to create recurring revenue and strengthen customer loyalty.

With the current competitive wireless environment, carriers need new forms of differentiation beyond traditional service offerings. The ACG and APP partnership will simplify deployment for member companies by providing implementation support, claims management, training, and marketing assistance.

“I think the converged world is bringing even more opportunities for us and ACG-type partners to really do some interesting things to help consumers,” said Brown. “As the game becomes more about the totality of the home (broadband plus mobile), that really starts to fit well with some of Allstate’s assets like home insurance and auto insurance, so it allows us to bring some unique offerings that could be differentiating for ACG member carriers.”

For Allstate Protection Plans, the move continues a broader expansion into mobile services and lifecycle management. The company, which operates under the SquareTrade brand outside of North America, has steadily grown its footprint with carriers, retailers, and OEMs over the last several years.

In 2024, Allstate Protection Plans acquired Kingfisher, a company focused on device lifecycle management, repair, replacement, and trade-in programs for carriers. At the time, Allstate said the acquisition would strengthen its position in the global mobile industry and help carriers manage growing demand for upgrade and secondary device programs.

The company has also expanded its embedded protection and support offerings for retailers and service providers. Allstate says it now serves more than 140 million customers through partnerships with major retailers and mobile carriers across multiple product categories.

For ACG members, however, the partnership could provide access to enterprise-scale support systems that smaller carriers may not have the resources to build independently. As competition intensifies across the wireless market, customer experience and post-sale service are becoming larger parts of the overall value proposition.
