Walmart Adds Handy In-Home Services Online

The partners are expanding their six-month-old pact.

Handy must be proving very handy for Walmart customers.

Six months after the discounter brought the Angie’s List-like referral service into 2,000 of its stores, it’s also been integrated into Walmart.com.

The New York-based company, founded in 2012, connects consumers with local, vetted contractors for household repairs, installations and cleaning. The partnership with Walmart began in-store in March, and includes such services as TV mounting ($79) and furniture assembly (starting at $59).

On Walmart.com, customers can purchase Handy installation and assembly services at checkout, and then schedule an appointment any time from 7:00 a.m. up to 11:00 p.m.

“Consumers are becoming more and more comfortable purchasing big-ticket items like televisions and furniture online,” said David Arron, services general manager at Walmart eCommerce. “We want to make it as easy as possible for our shoppers to enjoy those items without being burdened by time-intensive setup or assembly. Handy has done a great job at removing that friction point for our in-store program and we’re excited to extend this program to Walmart.com so that our shoppers can enjoy their purchases as soon as possible.”

Handy has provided similar services to retailers Wayfair and B8ta, and to vendor Como Audio. It competes in an increasingly crowded marketplace that, besides category pioneer Angie’s List, also includes HomeAdvisor, Houzz and Amazon Home Services.
