The global luxury audio market is forecast to reach $3.4 billion in retail value by 2030, even as unit shipments recover more slowly, according to a new report from Futuresource Consulting.
The market recorded 510,000 shipments in 2025, down 5.2% year over year, while retail value declined just 0.6% to $2.8 billion. Futuresource expects shipments to fall another 1.1% in 2026 to 504,000 units, while retail value increases 1.6% to $2.84 billion. Higher average selling prices and continued demand for premium systems are helping support market value despite lower volumes.
“Luxury audio is not returning to growth in a single wave,” says Guy Hammett, senior market analyst at Futuresource Consulting. “Many enthusiasts are keeping their existing systems for longer, but spending at the top of the market remains comparatively resilient. This is allowing value to regain momentum before volumes, with growth increasingly concentrated around products that offer genuine differentiation.”
Futuresource sees growing differences in purchasing behavior across price tiers. Buyers considering loudspeakers priced between approximately $10,000 and $30,000 per pair are showing greater sensitivity to economic uncertainty, with some delaying upgrades or considering secondhand products. Demand for speakers priced above approximately $40,000 per pair remains comparatively stable, supported by interest in exclusivity, craftsmanship, personalization and design.
Product differentiation and integration are also shaping competition. Streaming amplifiers and active loudspeakers that combine premium construction, performance and simplified control are attracting new buyers and established enthusiasts looking to reduce system complexity.
“Product relevance is now one of the clearest dividing lines between winners and underperformers,” says Hammett. “Customers do not need to replace a luxury audio system simply because something newer is available. Brands must give them a compelling reason to upgrade, whether through better performance, thoughtful integration, distinctive design, or a genuinely stronger ownership experience. Even then, knowledgeable dealers and dependable after-sales support remain critical.”
Regionally, North America and Western Europe remain important luxury audio markets, while Southeast Asia and India represent longer-term growth opportunities. China’s recovery remains subdued, according to the report.
Futuresource projects global luxury audio shipments will reach 567,000 units by 2030, a 2.1% compound annual growth rate from 2025. Shipments are not expected to return to 2024 levels until 2029. Retail value is forecast to grow at a 4% CAGR over the same period.
Loudspeakers and two-channel electronics are expected to account for much of the additional retail value, while headphones and wireless speakers are projected to contribute significantly to shipment growth.
