Dirac Debuts Spaces Automotive Audio System In U.S. Market

The software uses MIMO sound field control to recreate the acoustic characteristics of real-world venues inside vehicle cabins

Dirac debuted its Dirac Spaces automotive audio solution to the U.S. market at the AES Automotive Audio 2026 International Conference, July 29-31 in Detroit.

First introduced at Auto China in April, Dirac Spaces will be demonstrated at the Audio Foundry booth in several production vehicles. A Volvo EX90 will showcase Dirac Spaces and Dirac Unison, while a Karma Revero will demonstrate Dirac Unison and Dirac Dimensions.

Dirac Spaces is designed to recreate the acoustic characteristics of real-world environments inside a vehicle cabin. Rather than focusing solely on audio playback, the system uses measurements of both the vehicle cabin and a target acoustic environment to reproduce characteristics including reflections, decay, directionality and spatial properties.

The technology uses Dirac’s proprietary multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) sound field control technology to create the resulting acoustic environment. Available configurations include Signature Spaces, which allow automakers to partner with venues to create branded environments, and Designed Spaces, which include environments measured from real-world venues and engineered by Dirac.

At AES Detroit, Dirac will also demonstrate its collaboration with Pioneer in a Volvo XC90 equipped with Pioneer speakers. The system combines Dirac Unison with Pioneer’s next-generation Integrated Sound Platform (ISP), along with Klippel technology.

Pioneer’s ISP is designed for software-defined vehicles and incorporates audio processing directly into the amplifier platform. Dirac said the architecture can provide automakers with greater flexibility in system design and packaging while reducing integration requirements.

“The U.S. debut of Dirac Spaces comes at an important moment for automotive audio,” said Anders Storm, CEO of Dirac. “Today’s automakers are thinking beyond sound system specifications to enhance the in-vehicle experience. They want flagship experiences that forge stronger emotional connections for both drivers and passengers. Dirac Spaces gives them a new creative tool for the cabin—one that can make a vehicle feel like a carefully crafted acoustic environment, not simply a place where audio is played.”

“Our collaboration with Pioneer demonstrates how premium automotive audio is evolving through software-defined architectures,” continued Storm. “By integrating Dirac processing into Pioneer’s Integrated Sound Platform, we’re helping automakers deliver richer, more immersive sound while providing a scalable foundation that gives them greater flexibility in system design, packaging and performance.”

Dirac’s automotive audio technologies are currently used in vehicles from Volvo, Polestar, Genesis, NIO, BYD and other automakers.
