Samsung has begun shipping the two-washers-in-one FlexWash and two-dryers-in-one FlexDry laundry pair, first previewed at CES in January.
Designed to provide laundry flexibility for busy families, the FlexWash and FlexDry let consumers do multiple loads at the same time. The FlexWash has a 5-cubic-foot lower washer for bulky loads and a 1-foot top-load compartment for small loads, but still only requires one standard water-line hookup. It’s also Wi-Fi enabled, so consumers can receive smartphone alerts and schedule cycles via their mobile device.
The FlexDry, meanwhile, has a 7.5-cubic-foot bottom compartment for large loads and a drying zone on top for delicate items. Samsung’s MultiSteam technology in the main dryer compartment is designed to freshen clothes and reduce odors and wrinkles.
The FlexWash (models WV60M9900AV/A5 and WV55M9600AV/A5) is now available in black stainless steel and white at majap retailers and e-tailers for suggested retails ranging from $1,599 to $1,899. The FlexDry comes in gas (DVG60M9900V/A3 and DVG55M9600V/A3) and electric (DVE60M9900V/A3 and DVE55M9600V/A3) in black stainless steel and white for $1,599 to $1,999.
To support the new line, Samsung is launching a digital, print, TV and social marketing campaign known as “Live beautiful,” meant to encompass the belief that home is the most beautiful place on Earth, it said. It will feature real people, rather than actors, discussing how laundry is “an intrinsic part of their everyday life.”
According to a recent study by The Stevenson Company, Samsung was the No. 1 major appliance brand in the U.S. in the first quarter, driven by its dominance in the laundry and refrigeration categories.
