Mahwah, N.J. — Marantz plans Aug. 26 shipments of a new stereo integrated amplifier and a CD player, replacing current models and adding upgrades.

The matching models are the $699-suggested PM6005 integrated amplifier and $499 CD6005 hi-fi CD player.

Compared to its predecessor, the M6005 adds digital fiber-optic and coaxial inputs and internal 192kHz/24-bit DAC, whereas its predecessor was an analog-only model. The new version also sports “brushed-up/tuned internal components and signal paths,” said D+M Group product manager Paul Belanger.

The power supply, for example, has been upgraded with a high-current, shielded toroidal transformer and large-capacity diodes to provide high-current and high-speed conversion capability, the company said.

Like its PM6004 predecessor, the PM6005 is rated at 2x45 watts into 8 ohms and 2x60 into 4 ohms and features HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) technology, which provides an extremely high slew rate with high dynamic range and a wide bandwidth, the company said.

The PM6005 also features two sets of gold-plated speaker terminals for connection to two pairs of speakers. An all-discrete headphone amplifier is compatible with almost any headphone type regardless of impedance or sensitivity, the company added.

The PM6005 is priced $50 higher than its predecessor.

The CD6005 CD player, priced the same as its predecessor, features “brushed-up/tuned internal components and signal paths” and adds AAC playback, Belanger said. Its predecessor decoded only MP3, WMA, WAV files on CDs and on USB-connected memory-storage devices.

The new player and its predecessor feature front-panel Made for iPod/iPhone USB, but the new model adds ability to trickle-charge an iPad, not just stream its audio content.

Also like before, the CD player features HDAM circuitry and 192kHz/24-bit resolution.

The CD player also has a headphone amplifier circuit in a discrete configuration said to outperform separate headphone amps.

An included remote operates the CD player and the matching PM6005 integrated amplifier.
